Gayle: We have returned from Gulfport/Biloxi, Ms casinos. The ones we visited are ok. (Isle of Capri, Grand, and Beau Rivage) did not win. Casinos are mostly back to norm; however, there are almost no eateries open between Biloxi and Gulfport. Whole area is swept clean by Katrina still. Hard Rock to open. Received good offers to go there via mail prior to our trip. Bottom line: it is worth the trip. Earl.
Earl: Thanks for the MS. update. Gayle.

Gayle: What does ‘zigzag’ mean? Mary Lou
Mary Lou: Zig zag is a descriptive word that I use referring to the up/down, across/up for the many paylines on a slot machine that appear to be moving in all directions across the screen.
To me, it looks like a ‘zig zag’ pattern. Gayle.

Research paints picture of 'average' online gambler...
Most people do it for fun, not money, finds study
The average online casino gambler is a woman aged 46 to 55, who plays two or three times a week, has played for two or three years and plays for one or two hours each time, a new study says.

I know it’s the last thing on your mind, but next month is tax time, so—
Most casinos will provide you with a free, written statement of your 2006 gambling wins or losses in their casino. Contact the casino online or toll free and include your club card number.
Most casinos report table games and slots separately.
Even if you don’t require the information for tax purposes, it’s always interesting (or not) to view your record.

1) We begin with a trip report from a subscriber:
Gayle: We recently returned from Las Vegas. We took about 1M with us. I won 2 pots of any size-a 30. win at airport as I was leaving on a Wheel of Fortune machine. Also won 75. on quarter machine--something with devils don’t know for sure what machine it was-but remember it was at Bellagio. Played downtown at Fremont and Binions but no luck.
This is the 4th time in a row that we have been skunked at Vegas! Either the machines are tight or something else is going on. I feel like telling them to go to he-- or taking up another game.
Steve, a disgruntled at Vegas reader.
Steve: We all have losing streaks, but 4 times is discouraging. If you want to stay with slots, I would suggest Video Poker. I will re-state the best places to play, IMO. I like the weathered El Cortez, Union Plaza and Main St. Station. Most casinos downtown offer better payouts than the strip. For close to Strip--I like Palms, Barbary Coast and Gold Coast Casino. Gayle.
2) The article below provides a hopeful sign for US online players, but, in my opinion, this Act will not be repealed until the banks raise concerns as to how they are going to enforce it.
Frank to Repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act....
Prior to the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in October, Congressman Barney Frank asked... "Has it become the role of this Congress to prohibit any activity that an adult wants to engage in voluntarily if it doesn't add to the GDP or make us more competitive? What kind of socio-cultural authoritarianism are we advocating here?"
3) Below are two cases of gamblers suing casinos for their losses. Normally, I would say these are frivolous lawsuits; however, the Crown Casino, Melbourne Australia appears to have tempted a known addicted gambler to their baccarat tables.
The second case of the California couple leaves a bad taste in my mouth. While, the casino that accepted the debts is partially responsible, it appears the couple was skirting the law.
Read the stories below and let me know your thoughts.
Gold Coast high roller sues Crown for lost $30 million....
According to Harry Kakavas, the conduct of Crown was "high-handed", "in flagrant disregard of the law of Victoria" and designed to cause him to lose "substantial amounts of money".
Gambling debts unenforceable in California
San Francisco Chronicle - A Daly City couple who allegedly wrote $43,000 in bad checks to casinos in California and Nevada got bailed out today by a judge, who said gambling debts are unenforceable in California courts. Despite the state's increased acceptance and legalization of various forms of gambling, its courts will not recognize lawsuits by casinos that extend credit to gamblers, said Superior Court Judge Quentin Kopp, a retired jurist.

4) Whenever I read about a slot jackpot dispute, I conclude upfront that the slot player will lose as most courts side with the casinos in their jurisdiction; however, this is a different story.
The story began with this headline
$8,000 or a cool million? -- Casino slot jackpot in dispute
The Mississippi Gaming Commission is scheduled to decide Thursday whether a disputed jackpot at IP Casino is worth $1 million or $8,000.
And on Thursday, my congrats go out to the feisty winner...
Mississippi - Tom Wilemon, Sun Herald - The three-member Mississippi Gaming Commission ruled unanimously Thursday that a gambler should be paid $1 million in a jackpot dispute, but a lawyer for the IP Casino said he expects the decision to be appealed. The slot machine was mistakenly programmed to be a stand-alone progressive. The casino contends the gambler is owed only $8,000 because that's what the machine advertised. The machine, owned by IGT and leased to the casino, can be used as a standard slot or a progressive. An IGT technician set the progressive option when the casino had ordered a standard slot. Florida Eash of Biloxi hit the jackpot. The machine lit up informing her she had won $1 million. When casino employees told her the jackpot was $8,000, she requested the Gaming Commission investigate.

5) The last headline is indeed ‘a feel good story’. Readers know that I have a soft spot for the well worn, but beloved in my mind, El Cortez.
It’s an example of a casino that if it hangs around long enough, becomes ‘hot’ yet again.
Jeff Simpson on how the El Cortez is quickly becoming downtown's feel-good story of the year.
