The choice of games continues to grow online. On one hand, we’ve got classic video poker games whose great payouts and excitement never go out of style. On the other hand, online casinos have slowly but surely been bolstering their selection with intriguing new, and equally compelling, versions. Let’s take a look at some of the newest—and oldest—video poker games found online.
New & Classic Video Poker Games
From perennial favorites to the latest video poker creations, online casinos are brimming with exciting video poker action. Check out this mix of classic games and their latest spin-offs.
Jacks or Better
Basic Description: The classic video poker game, in Jacks or Better the player is dealt five cards and must choose which to “hold.” The player then discards the remaining cards and is dealt replacements. The final hand is considered a winning hand if the player has a pair of jacks or better. Playing more coins increases the payouts on winning hands.
Betting limits: Typical range is $0.05 to $5.00.
Winning hands: Hands are ranked as follows: pair of jacks or higher, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, royal flush.
Special features: A “double up” feature is available on most jacks or better versions.
Deuces Wild
Basic description: A popular version of draw poker both on and offline, Deuces Wild is similar to Jacks or Better except that twos are wild and the minimum winning hand is three of a kind.
Winning hands: Hands are ranked as follows: three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, five of a kind, “wild” royal with twos, four deuces, royal flush.
Betting limits: Ranges from $0.05 to $5. Varies according to the site.
Special features: Twos are wild and can be used to create winning hands.
Joker Poker
Basic description: Joker Poker is a draw poker version that offers a combination of wild cards, and special payouts for select hands. The final hand is considered a winner if the player has a pair of kings or better.
Winning hands: Hands are ranked as follows: Pair of kings or better, two pair, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, wild royal with Joker, five of a kind, royal flush, and sequential royal.
Betting limits: Ranges from $0.05 to $5.00.
Special features: There is a special payout for having five of a kind, or a wild royal with joker.
Pick ‘Em Poker
Basic description: Pick 'Em Poker is a different kind of video poker game. Players receive two single cards starting from the left and then two sets of three cards. Players must choose between these two sets for the set they believe will yield the best hand. Once the selection is made, the other cards are revealed making a poker hand.
Winning hands: Pair of nines, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, royal flush.
Betting limits: Game typically ranges from $0.05 to $5.
Special features: Playing more coins increases the payouts on winning hands.
Aces & Eights
Basic description: Another exciting version of draw poker, Aces and Eights is played like Jacks or Better, with the player receiving five cards and at least a pair of jacks required to win. The game also offers special payouts for select hands, including four aces and four eights.
Winning hands: Pair of jacks or better, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, royal flush. There is also a special payout for 4 eights, 4 aces, or four sevens.
Betting limits: $0.05 to $5.00
Special features: There is a special payline in the paytable for four Aces, four eights, or four sevens.
2 Ways Royal
Basic description: Like other versions of video poker, the object of 2 Ways Royal is to receive a five-card poker hand that contains a winning combination. The most notable difference however, is that the game offers a “Lo Royal Flush”—a combination of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 of the same suit—that pays the same as the traditional or “Hi Royal Flush”-- 10, J, Q, K, A of the same suit.
Winning hands: The game pays on pairs of jacks or better, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, 4 of a kind, straight flush, lo royal flush and hi royal flush.
Betting limits: $0.05 to $5.00.
Special features: Payout for a Lo Royal Flush and Hi Royal Flush are the same: 250-coin payout on minimum bet and 4000 coins on maximum bet.
Part 2 continues next month with more VP versions available online.
Note: some online casinos do not accept payments from US players.
