CASINO PLAYERS EZINE #79
Greetings, Casino Players:
The lure and amusement of penny slots is the focus of the Feature Article in this issue. I tackle the question of pennies vs. dollar slots with a comparison of land-based and online slots.
As you expect of your editor, I offer my opinion and provide alternative suggestions to those slot players who are looking for guidance with their slot choices.
Additionally, three new slot reviews to include Agassi’s tennis-themed slot that supports his worthy Foundation and three Jackpot Stories are up for view.
Question for this issue is: How long does $20 last when playing penny slots? Do you play max. coin?
The CPEzine #79 Question is posted at yourcasinovoice.com. and we value your participation.

In January 2005, I wrote this about the new slots:
Pennies, one cent, two cent and more are everywhere for 2005. This small brown coin has now reached jackpot proportions with new bonus game offerings.
Usually found with larger denominations, the newer bonus slots offer many an opportunity through bonus credits, multipliers and free spins for all slot players to enter the 'big bucks' kingdom of slots.
In 2006, I wrote: Penny slots, similar to last year, continue to lead the parade of the new slot selection.
In between, there was this email from a reader.
Gayle: Have you formed an opinion of the Penny machines that are becoming so popular?
I was amazed at the congestion at the penny section at Borgata in AC. With probably 75 machines, it was by far the most popular part of the whole casino. Bettors are not just wagering pennies either. Many bet $1 each time. The only time you can be sure of a seat is 8 in the morning. I speak from experience and as one who enjoys them greatly. Just wondering what you think. Thanks for your good work. Martha
Yes, Martha, I have formed an opinion, but first let’s look at a few facts to compare pennies vs. dollars.
Penny Slots have at least 20-25 lines and some 50 lines and as most slot players know, the wise wager is to activate all lines on every spin.
Betting: For a 20-line version, if you bet 1 coin/line=20 cents/spin, 5 coins/line=$1 and 10 coins/line for a maximum bet spin=$2.
Thus, 25 lines=$2.50 for a max spin and 50 lines=$5.00 for a max spin!
There are several other configurations. For example, you can bet 25 coins/line and now we are over $5.00 for a max spin!
Top jackpots are usually less than $1000, moving higher up to $1million for Hyperlink progressive versions.
Payouts: Some casino/gaming areas are now reporting payouts for penny slots and while a few report 90-91%, the majority of payouts are in the 88-89% range.
Other: Penny slots offer many more multipliers and free spin opportunities than dollar slots.
Dollar Slots are generally single payline with 2-3 coin max., however multi-line and 5 reels are in the mix.
Betting: $2-3 for max spins on single payline, $5 for five reels and over $10 for multi-lines!
Top jackpots are at least $1000, often $2500 up to $10,000 for basic slots. Progressive dollar jackpots reset for at least $1 million and Megabucks resets at 7 million.
Payouts: At least 93% and often as high as 95%.
Other: When playing $2/spin, one cherry symbol on the payline will return your bet.
Online Slots offer pennies up to $1 for each of their multi-line versions and quarters to $5 for single payline slots. You can change your betting easily at these multi-denominations slots.
I note that some land-based slots are multi-denominational, but not all. To increase your bets at most penny slots, your only option is to go for a max. spin.
Top jackpots vary from less than $1000 for pennies to progressive slot million$ payouts depending on denomination.
Payouts: According to published payouts for online casinos, they range from a high of 98% to a low of 95% for all slots.
Other: Generous bonus cash promotions.
In conclusion utilizing the comparison above, your bankroll will go further IF you play less than max coin but activating all paylines at penny slots, albeit with lower payouts.
Lower payouts translate into lower returns; therefore, often you do not receive even a return of your original bet per spin.
Single payline dollar slots provide higher payouts and jackpots for often less than a max coin spin at penny multi-line slots. Higher payouts translate into more frequent return of your original bet per spin and often additional credits.
Online slots provide both options of pennies and dollars at one slot with higher payouts than land-based casinos.
As to my personal opinion, I prefer dollar slots, however I can understand a bankroll-conscious slot player who wants to play and have some casino fun with $20. I did this test recently.
1) I played $20 at a 20-line slot activating all lines at a penny per line=20cents/spin.
Playing time=38 minutes.
2) I played $20 at the same 20-line slot playing 10cents/line—max spin=$2.00/spin.
Playing time=11 minutes.
I would like to hear your results, thus the reason for the Issue #79 Question:
Q. How long does $20 last when playing penny slots? Do you play max. coin?

For those players considering the best slot play choices for them, I suggest three more alternatives.
1) Take an equal amount of money, ($100.) and play two separate slots: pennies vs. single payline dollars and compare the results.
2) Try the same comparison test above online and take advantage of the bonus promotions.
Two of my favorites slots online are Crazy 7’s—single payline and Triple Profits Bonus slot. This ‘hold and spin’ slot version allows you to hold all or none of the game symbols on the bottom reel and those selected are held on all three reels for a second spin.
3) Additionally, I like to play QuarterMillion$ progressive slots where the max bet is only 75 cents offering a jackpot that resets at $250,000. See the Jackpot Bulletin section for three winning stories playing this popular slot.
The Slots Playground offers a multitude of choices in versions and denominations. I hope this article assists with those choices by providing an enjoyable and profitable casino experience.
Note: I realize that there is an ongoing controversy about the legality of online gaming in the US.
As I have said before, that is an individual choice.
As the editor of Casino Players Ezine: Slots Newsletter providing information and advice to over 25,000 subscribers, I feel an obligation to explore and publish all options available to slot players.

1) Mistress of the Sea: Atronic. 3 spins. 86-94% |
Prepare for an underwater adventure when three golden hands symbols trigger the Temple of Treasures and you are presented with a grid of sea treasures.
Pick your bonus credits until Start Again, Collect with Next or Next Level appear.
Start Again brings up a new screen for your selection while keeping aside previous picks.
Collect with Next permits one more selection before the round ends.
Next Level also brings up a new screen, but with higher bonuses. This option continues for three levels at which time you will have reached the tiptop bonus—the Treasury.
The Collect pick will end all rounds during this adventure.
During your journey, look for the wild moon symbol that will multiply the jackpot by eight if it appears on the fourth and second reel of a winning combination.
The 3D graphics will ‘put you in the swim’ of slot playing excitement.
|
| |
2) Aztec Temple MultiWay: IGT, 4 spins, 85-98% |
Add this version to the list of slots where you bet reels instead of paylines.
To explain, 3 right hand symbols in the middle row on the 15 symbol grid are active.
Each five-coin bet activates one vertical row of symbols. Thereafter, each five-coin bet activates another row of symbols, multiplying the way to win by three.
Therefore, a 25-coin bet activates all five reels allowing 243 win possibilities.
Scatter pays up to 100 credits times your bet. The top jackpot with max coin in play
is a big hit of 125,000 coins.
The Temple Free Spin bonus occurs when gold medallions appear on the screen, at which time; you select one to collect bonus credits from free spins and a multiplier.
You will surely find multi ways for multi wins with this exciting slot.

| |
3) Agassi. Aristocrat. 2 spins. 92-93% |
Of course, the wild symbol at this tennis themed slot is superstar Agassi along with the
Wimbledon champion’s cup icon. You can feel oh so good about playing this graphically rich and multi-featured slot in that proceeds go to Agassi’s Foundation.
There are 25 lines in this penny slot with a Grand Jackpot resetting at $1000 and a Major jackpot resetting at $116. It’s not necessary to bet max to win jackpots, however, be sure to activate all the paylines and bet an extra 10 coins for the ante wager.
When scattered airplane symbols land on all five reels, the animation begins spelling out AGASSI
and one of four bonus events begins. In Tennis Balls, the main screen displays a grid of tennis balls and the player is prompted to select until matching 2 bonus prizes. In Wild A, the player is awarded three free spins. During each free game, a letter A is placed in a random reel position. Each A subs for all other symbols including scatter pays and remains in position for the remaining free spins, thus the final free spin includes three wild symbols.
In Choose a Stadium, the main screen shows four famous tennis stadiums, each of which has a number of free spins and multiplier values for the Agassi wild symbol. The player chooses their risk factor from five to twenty free games.
The Jackpot Cards bonus game leads the player to one of the two progressive jackpots. The main screen asks you to select cards until matching two. At the first level, the cards hide either bonus amounts, the words LEVEL UP or the word MAJOR.
Moving up means matching LEVEL UP cards whereupon matching two GRAND cards hits
the top jackpot offering Game, Set and Match!
