Question of the month

Q. Does your favorite casino still have single-payline slots? Example: DDiamond and/or Red White & Blue with 2 or 3 reels?

Results are published in the mid-month Casino Players Ezine newsletter.
Note: New Question on or about the 15th of every month

Gambling tale #1

Josephine Crawford is now in the slots history book as the largest jackpot winner in N.J. Crawford, 84, who has been gambling in Atlantic City casinos since 1978 had never won more than $1,000 per visit before. The grandmother of five and mother of three was ready to hit the road after playing at Harrah's Atlantic City casino when she struck a huge payday of $10 million.

Crawford, a retired waitress, was set to play the Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy slots, when her granddaughter found a nickel machine with a progressive jackpot of $10 million.

Josephine knew when the bells started ringing that she had won something but didn't know what. She stated, 'You know, this machine's doing good. It's keeping me playing with that first $20. 'The family celebrated with dinner and the new millionaire says she will treat her family to a vacation in Italy with part of the winnings.

Crawford will decide whether to take the money in a 25-year annuity or in a lump-sum payment of more than $5.5 million.

Gambling tale #2

We have an Indian casino here in Hollywood, Fl. It's run by the Hard Rock.

They have funny machines called class 2 and each machine has a bingo card at the top of the screen. If you get a winner--straight line--you will get some kind of a winning hand or 3 bells or something. No correlation to anything. I always fought the idea of putting my money in a machine that pays off on the whim of the casino, but I went with a friend to pass the time and they gave me $10 free play.

I signed in and got my $10. Could not lose, every time I pushed the button and I won $2200. Later, I cashed out and went home. Mel.

Gambling tale #3

The local radio station announced in Chattanooga that they had a "Bellagio" dinner certificate to give away. Knowing that I was going to Las Vegas in the next couple of days, I phoned the radio station informing them that I was going to the "Bellagio" in next few days and requested the dinner certificate that they sent me. Going to the Bellagio, I inquired at the comp desk about using the gift check and was informed I could use it at any of their restaurants.

I later presented it to the Buffet and after their staff spoke to their supervisor's supervisor, they refused to honor the certificate and could not understand where and who authorized its issuance. They were very nice and polite and so was I. Upon my return home, I looked in phone book and sure enough, there is a Bellagio here in my city. We had a good meal at the real Bellagio. I guess one needs to confirm location of restaurants who issue freebees. Earl W.

Blue Brothers/Alpha: Bally, 4 spins. 88-96%

They are here to view--John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as Jake and Elwood Blues along with the popular sounds. Toss in harmonicas, records and other music icons.

One of the Saturday Night series slots, there is a bonus rounds called the Briefcase Bonus that is triggered when briefcase symbols land on the first third and fifth reels.

The payout is 3X the total bet. Secondly, there is the Free Games bonus occurring when three or more Free Games symbols land scattered on the reels.

Jackpots on free spins are tripled and a special Double Symbol in the free spins doubles all free game jackpots won to that point.

The crescendo for this musical adventure is the Blues Brothers Wild Symbol payout of 15,000 times the line bet.

Monopoly Wild Dice; Wms Gaming 3 spins 89-93%

More Monopoly with a $5000 payout as shown in the top box replica of this popular board game.

Several options for additional credits occur when landing on Chance or Community chest or acquiring all the same colored properties.

The main event starts with a die symbol appearing on the middle reels at which time the symbol expands into a Wild Dice symbol creating wild spots for that particular reel for a cumulative bonus pay.

Uncle Pennybags once again shines with this penny progressive offering.

Star Wars: A New Hope. IGT 2 spins 88-91%

IGT offers a remarkable video experience via this sequel to their Star Wars slot by replicating the famous duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

A New Hope is a unique presentation that includes a 19-inch color video monitor in a 7 feet cabinet displaying the Death Star planet-killing weapon used by the evil Empire in the film The Death Star.

We begin our adventure at the scatter pay bonus consisting of one or both droid characters on the primary reels. Three or more R2-D2 or C-3PO symbols return a scatter win.

Additional, when Darth Vader appears on the first reel with an Obi-Wan Kenobi symbol on the fifth reel, the Light Saber Bonus begins and you select the winner for bonus rewards.

Three Death Star symbols start the Death Star Bonus that can conclude with the starship battle and mounting credits. Moving on to the bonus rounds. Betting lines and denominations determine how you view, hear and earn credits. For example, if you bet from one to four credits/line, the setting of the primary game is Tatooine, Luke Skywalker's home planet where the roids R2-D2 and C-3PO landed in the film and where Luke met up with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The reel symbols and sound compare with the first segment of the film.

With five to nine credits/line bet, the scene takes place at the Cantina, the interstellar bar where Luke encounters Han Solo and his buddy, Chewbacca.

The reel symbols and sound reflect brawling aliens and the appearance of Princess Leia.

A max bet of 10 credits/line gets you to the Death Star mode. The reel symbols and sound show the final battle between the Empire's TIE fighter ships and the rebel alliance vessels in the race to destroy the Death Star.

During the battle, if you come across five Star Wars symbols on the first payline, the winner's prize of at least $500,000 is yours.

Lines form to the right for this penny multiline video slot offering a million dollar progressive payday.

Jackpot Bulletin: Winning Stories

Wrong Turn Makes It Right

A wrong turn lead instead to Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, CA. for Wen Cho. The stop and choice of a dollar Wheel of Fortune also lead to the right move with a $751,114 MegaJackpot payday. Cho had just left his lawyer's office and had received approval to bring his family to the US, not knowing that more good news was on the way.

"I was happy because I knew I won at least $5,000 and then the attendant told me I hit the big one," said Cho. Plans for his winnings include real estate investing and purchasing a bigger home for his wife and child.

One Last Stop at the Wheel

Before heading back to their home in Norwalk, California, Julian Torres and his family made one last stop at MGM Grand in Vegas. Torres hit it big for $1,364,852 at a 50-cent Wheel of Fortune slot after betting only $20.

Torres gives credit to daughter, Nancy for the huge payday. Nancy stated, "I kept telling him to play the progressive machine." Torres, a 51-year-old hotel maintenance worker said, 'I will not have to worry about money anymore."

A new house is also in the future.

Five Spins Will Do It

It took only five spins at a Wheel of Fortune slot in the Imperial Palace, Vegas to send Jennifer Peculis into shock and the recipient of a $448,715 jackpot.

While waiting for a late afternoon flight, Jennifer, 28 from Ohio and her fiancé Ben decided that playing slots would pass the time.

With only $10. in play, Jennifer said, "I saw the first Wheel of Fortune symbol, then up came the second and by the time the third came up it was a blur."

Once she realized what you had won, plans were made to pay off her house, her car and student loans with some 'fun money' left over.
