For 2008, WMS showcased its Casino Evolved vision for the casino of the future, their newest "Disruptive Technology" platform and 86 new game themes covering all major product categories.
WMS' Casino Evolved Vision delivers on the promise of server-enabled gaming thus allowing players to personalize their own preferences.

2) Community Gaming: Based on the popular game show, Press Your Luck, WMS is introducing the next title in this extremely popular product category that continues to bring the excitement of table games to the slot floor. All eligible players will search for "Big Bucks" and "No Whammies" as they collectively participate in one of five Big Event bonuses, including the first of its kind communal free spin event. Additionally, WMS will unveil a new twist on Community Gaming slots with its Bigger Bang Piggy Bankin' product, which provides the industry's first competitive communal bonus.
3) Sensory Immersion Gaming - Built around the BOSE 3Space audio system, and WMS' powerful CPU-NXT2 platform, The Wizard of Oz allows players to follow the "Yellow Brick Road" through an unrivaled multi-sensory storyline. This immersive game includes exciting bonus rounds that transport players to the "Land of Oz," complete with "Dorothy, the Wicked Witch and 3-D flying monkeys" that swoop and dive across the reels to create volatile wins. Also, the introduction of Dirty Harry will make the day of Clint Eastwood fans as this thrill-seeking audio and visual slot experience allows players to chase down villains through the streets of San Francisco while engaging in interactive bonus rounds.
Other new or updated slots versions from WMS include Hot Hot Super Jackpot and products such as Samurai Master and Egypt.
In the player favorite Classic Series, WMS will introduce new second-screen interactive game themes such as Lucky Meerkats and Goosin' Around that provide for volatile picking bonuses and a multitude of outcomes that routinely provide the players with a wide variety of bonus experiences.
WMS’ Wrap Around Pays series offers up to 100 pay lines that start on any reel and "wrap around" to other reels creating unprecedented ways to win.
The sky is the limit with WMS' newest Monopoly title, Up, Up and Away, an exciting fast action 3-D experience. Mr. Monopoly soars to new heights in the bonus round as he hosts players through numerous dynamic settings to deliver interactive events in an engaging visual format.
Renowned for its popular Multi-level Progressive games, WMS is launching two new titles: Super Jackpot Stampede and Happy Days Super Jackpot Stampede. |

1) Game of Life: Career Choices: Atronic. 86-96%. 3 spins. |
There is now another version of the Game of Life based on the board game. The two wild symbols and triggers that are the base of the game are the diamond on reels 2 – 5 that subs for all but bonus symbols and the dollar symbol, a scatter wild that converts all symbols on a reel into wild symbols when it lands. When this occurs, each additional dollar symbol multiplies the jackpot up to 16 times.
Additionally, the main bonus event occurs when 3 Game of Life icons line up and your attention is turned to the top screen. You then start the spinning dial that selects from 20 options that include free multipliers, free spins or takes you to an extra bonus game.
Further, the game spaces of Take a Break or Choose Your Job will reward you with free games or multipliers while the game space of Business Trip will reward with bonus credits. Some versions provide a random Mystery Magic progressive jackpot. The Game of Life continues and slots player await the next version ‘on board’.

2) Hexbreaker 2: IGT. 88-98%. 1-2 spins. |
If you believe in lucky black cats, then you should test your luck for the big payoff, this slot offers. This game’s reel configuration allowing for 720 ways to win per spin is called MultiWay Xtra with 3 symbols on the outer reels, four symbols on reels 2 and 4 and five symbols on the middle reel. Betting can be as high as 500 credits/spin and your credits will mount when matching three symbols on adjacent reels, left to right. The base game wild symbol appears on all of the three middle reels while 3 or more black cats start 10 free spins that can be re-started during the initial round. There are many ways to ‘break the hex’ and bring on the lucky cats.
|
| |
3) Lightning Sevens: Bally. 87-95%. 1-2 spins. |
Bally’s does 7’s better than anyone else and this version is proof. Based on the popular Blazing 7’s, the pay table of blue and mixed 7 combinations will be familiar. At max bet, the blue 7’s pay 2000 coins while 7 mixed combos pay 1000 coins. The difference is the gold 7’s marked with a 7 and 3rd, 2nd or 1st on the third reel that award a progressive jackpot. The wins are as follows: 3rd=$20, 2nd=$100 and 1st=$1000. The simplicity of this game makes for fast play at ‘lightning speed’.

Frances Grant’s plan was to buy her weekly lottery tickets at the Seminole Casino in Hollywood, FL., however the sales desk had closed. The next move for the Ft. Lauderdale resident was to try her luck at the progressive jackpot slots available at all six Seminole Casino properties in Florida. Against these odds, the 57 year old Grant not only hit for $517,712., but the huge jackpot is paid out in total—no waiting for yearly payments.
“How can you win if you don’t put yourself in a place to win?” asked Grant. She continued,
“I just had a feeling about going to the Seminole Casinos, I have played here before and I really enjoyed it.”

How things do change with the online gambling world in a couple of years.
1) Poker and Gambling Back Online For the USA
In 2006, when Sen. Bill Frist passed through the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, Poker and online casinos looked to have bitten the dust as far as Americans' where concerned. However it seems that this not the case now.
Millions of Americans are still gambling but many are still unaware that it is still legal to gamble, after all the fuss surrounding the bill coming into force, and the high profile cessation of services from some larger companies.
The Act did make it illegal for financial institutions to conduct financial transactions with gambling site but it is very easy to circumvent this necessity by using an online payment processor, which works in the same way as PayPal but accepts gambling transactions.
By using these payment processors, such as ePassporte and eWallet Xpress, Americans are flocking back to the poker and casino sites that are still accepting US players. Although a few companies cut their losses and pulled out of the US market, many larger sites stayed open for US business, and have reported massive player surges since doing so.
Many observers are stating that soon, with the amount of Americans still playing online, the UIGEA will be quietly forgotten about and swept under the carpet, as it is a useless piece of legislation with no power to curtail online gambling whatsoever.
I have to mention it again. It’s going to take more than sportsbetting to bring back the Americans. Let’s start with better payouts, competing payouts, video poker pay tables on par with the nearby US casinos and reporting overall payouts.
2) Canadians Suggest Legalized SportsBetting to bring back American Tourists to Ontario
This suggestion comes on the heels of Toronto commissioning former Finance Minister Greg Sorbara to study how to attract more foreigners to visit Ontario.
Toronto Star writer Dave Perkins pointed out that gambling is the largest global industry and has the biggest growth. "It cannot be stopped, no matter what out-of-touch lawmakers think about banning Internet betting sites and credit access and so on."
While over 118 million tourists visit Ontario annually, bringing $20.35 billion to the province's coffers, the economic slowdown in the U.S. resulted in a 4 percent decline in tourist arrivals among Americans.
Other recent travel and tourism trends that Ontario has to contend with are the strong Canadian dollar, new passport rules and smaller convention attendee numbers in the country's capital city.
I am certain this occurs in nearly every casino—slots players forget to print out their cash receipt. Yikes, this is a costly mistake!
3) Players leave Hollywood Casino without their payouts
Some Hollywood Casino customers in PA are leaving without all their money, and it's not limited to those who were unlucky on the slots or their horse racing wagers.
A few have failed to cash out their vouchers on slot machines and horse race betting machines. Then someone else did. And that's a crime, police said.
In one case, a 42-year-old Harrisburg man left $901 in credits on a slot machine Sunday afternoon. Soon after, another patron cashed out the remaining credits on the machine.
The Good and Bad News for El Cortez. The good news is that we can still play at this aging gem of downtown Vegas.
4) El Cortez owner sells stake in downtown casino
Longtime Las Vegas casino owner Jackie Gaughan is finally walking away from the tables. During a process that took just a few minutes, the Nevada Gaming Control Board approved a request by the downtown casino owner to sell his stake in the El Cortez, Gaughan's signature property since 1963.
I came across 2 news items for Station Casinos, Las Vegas. Does anyone else see the ironic comparison of building a new casino while laying off workers?
5) A) Station Casinos banking on biggest being best.
Plan for huge complex in play despite economy.
LAS VEGAS - At a time when businesses across the country are cutting back in the face of economic turmoil, the brothers at the helm of Station Casinos are accelerating plans for an enormous Las Vegas resort larger than City Center.
B) Station Casinos lays off 70 workers.
LAS VEGAS - Station Casinos laid off nearly 70 workers at the corporate level because of the slowing economy, the company confirmed late Thursday.
Here’s another comparison, according to casinos players, Vegas--not so much while Atlantic City gets the nod.
6) A) Vegas Visitor satisfaction at an all-time low
Last week, the LVCVA released the results of its annual 2007 Las Vegas Visitor Profile survey.
When asked if they were "very satisfied" with their visit to Las Vegas, only 89 percent of those surveyed said yes.
Some of the contributing factors may include:
• There’s been a drop-off in the number who vacation or come for pleasure.
• Visitors are spending less on gambling, entertainment, food/dining and sightseeing.
• Fewer visitors venture downtown.
Not only did the number of gamblers decrease, so did the amount they budgeted as their bankroll: last year, the average gambling budget was $555.64, down from the $651.94 budgeted in 2006.
Unfortunately for the hotels, visitors were not spending more on their non-gambling expenditures. In fact, every category except the cost of the actual guest room, reported less spending than the previous year. Those average expenditures included:
Restaurants and dining, $254.49, Shopping, $114.50, Shows and entertainment, $47.87 and Sightseeing, $8.31.
As noted, the average cost of an average hotel room was higher last year at $108.87.
Fewer visitors attended a show: dropped from 76 percent in 2006 to 63 percent last year.
As far as the actual demographics of the typical visitor, he or she was slightly older last year (average age was 49 versus 48 in 2006), slightly wealthier (80 percent had a household income of over $40,000 versus 78 percent the previous year) and mostly from the Western United States.
B) Atlantic City Trumps Las Vegas
"Compared to the Las Vegas Strip, Atlantic City guests are more satisfied with their hotel and casino experience," said the survey, published in Hotel & Motel Management magazine.
